Everything that happened at MoodleMoot Philippines

May 9, 2018 By Júlia Verdaguer

On April 26th and 27th, the first ever official MoodleMoot in Southeast Asia took place in Manila, Philippines. Organized by our Moodle Partner Nephila Web Technology, the 2-day event brought together educators, IT administrators, developers, HR managers and people interested in Moodle to learn, connect and empower educators!

If you have been following the hashtag #MootPH18, you will have seen many tweets from many of the more than 300 Moodlers, Moodle Partners and Sponsors who attended the event!

You can see the full program of the conference on the MoodleMoot Philippines site.

For those who missed it, we will try to summarize what happened during the two days of the conference, which we at Moodle HQ are very happy to have supported!

Day 1

After the welcome address by Sheryl Villarroman, CEO of our partner in the Philippines Nephila Web Technology, the director of our NZ Moodle Partner HRDNZ Stuart Mealor delivered the keynote “Moodle – The Journey so far”, about the history, evolution and current scope of Moodle and Moodle’s community and educational outreach.

After that, the attendees visited the different breakout rooms to learn and discuss about:

  • Moodle Research and Development
  • Module Development and Instructional Designs
  • Moodle Administration & Technical sessions
  • Moodle Implementation and Organizational Management
  • Moodle Integration solutions

Day 2

The second day of #MootPH started with a keynote from our Founder and CEO, Martin Dougiamas. Martin’s keynote was titled “Moodle Goals for the Future” and he addressed:

  • Moodle’s mission to empower educators and our commitment to Quality Education
  • The values of Moodle: Education, Openness, Respect, Integrity and Innovation
  • The investment partnership with Education For the Many
  • Moodle’s exciting 8 goals for the near future

You can actually watch Martin’s keynote in this Facebook Live video that the Moot organizers shared in their Facebook page!

Following Martin’s keynote, more breakout sessions were held, with a total of 51 presentations including the use of Moodle in adult training, the use of Moodle for mobile learning, usability and Moodle websites.

MootPH18 was also presented via remote presentations using the open software conferencing system Big Blue Button and a live interview with Martin Dougiamas by Dr. Melinda Bandalaria, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines – Open University (UPOU).

The first ever MoodleMoot in Philippines was definitely a success, connecting Moodlers from all Southeast Asia who worked together on Transformative Teaching Technologies towards a better education!

Thank you to everyone who attended MoodleMoot Philippines 2018! We hope to see you again very soon!
