What’s new in the Moodle 3.5 app and introducing Moodle Classic

June 25, 2018

Last month we released Moodle 3.5, our latest step towards our mission to empower educators.

Today, we at Moodle HQ are pleased to announce that Moodle 3.5 features are also available in our mobile app!

What’s new?

As part of our continued efforts to improve the user experience (UX) of our platform, the Moodle 3.5 app has an exciting new look and feel!

The new Moodle app version comes with several UX, performance and design improvements, giving the app a modern look and feel, making it easier to use by learners and teachers.

Here are some of the great new features that we’ve included in the new Moodle app:

  • A new user interface with many usability improvements
  • The display of Moodle 3.5 dashboard course images
  • The display of Moodle 3.5 choice results
  • Improved support for Vimeo embedded videos using
  • Bootstrap responsive classes
  • Options for administrators to disable offline mode or course download
  • Improved mobile support for plugins.

For a more detailed and a full list of the features, check out moodle.org.

To make the new app even more awesome we needed new frameworks and tools, meaning that we also required the use of modern mobile devices. As a result, the new Moodle 3.5 app update works only with Moodle 3.1 sites onwards and requires Android 4.4 or iOS 8.
However, if you have an older device or a site running on Moodle 2.4 – 3.0 you can continue using the existing app named ‘Moodle Classic’. This won’t have any of the new features but is provided to enable people running older Moodle sites to continue using the app.
