Dr Lian Loke – MoodleMoot Australia 2017 Keynote speaker

August 24, 2017

Moodle HQ is pleased to announce Dr Lian Loke as a special keynote guest to present at MoodleMoot Australia 2017.

Dr Loke will present a keynote address on Thursday, 28 September at 9.15am at the Grand Ballroom at Sheraton on the Park.

Dr Loke is a Senior Lecturer in the Design Lab, School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney and Director of the Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts Program.

She is an artist, designer and researcher, focussing on the human body as her interdisciplinary practice. Dr Loke is interested in understanding how new technologies are impacting our bodies and experiences and exploring how to design future products and systems from such understandings.

As part of her doctoral research, Dr Loke developed a design methodology that gives primacy to the lived experience of people interacting with technology and offers three perspectives for designers: the first-person experiential, the observer and the machine.

Dr Loke’s methodology aims to enable designers to develop products and systems that take account of the human dimensions of technology-mediated interactions and experiences – an important factor for sustaining health, vitality and well-being in a culture heavily dependent on technology.

At MoodleMoot Australia 2017, Dr Loke’s presentation will focus on human-centred design approaches to interactive technologies and spaces, and will answer the following questions or elaborate on:

  • Her research and examples of her design methodology in practice that have impacted the design of future technology products;
  • The idea of making strange & defamiliarisation: questioning habit and assumptions, both in thought and action and its importance for both design and learning;
  • What qualitative dimensions of technology interactions and experience are and how it could be applied to designing learning technology;
  • Expression vs feelings when it comes to learning – what questions, systems or actions can guide us toward being better learners.
