ANWB Streetwise is a traffic education program designed by ANWB – an organisation that promotes the interests of its 5 million members in mobility, vacation and leisure with a unique mix of influencing and service activities. The organisation also preserves and improves the quality of the environment, landscape, and cultural-historical values.
Through the ANWB Streetwise program, the organisation offers practical lessons in primary schools, featuring a digital learning path to help children develop safe traffic behaviour.
The challenge
With the goal to expand their existing program and create digital lessons that primary schools can teach to their students, ANWB needed a flexible learning management system (LMS) that would integrate easily with their existing infrastructure. They were also seeking an LMS that could streamline the process of adding and updating learning content. The organisation wanted to manage all their content from a central location, ensuring that any changes to the teaching material would automatically update across all relevant courses and resources, so adjustments would only need to be made once. Moreover, maintaining a high standard of customer service on their other websites was necessary, and they sought an LMS and a certified partner that could support that.
The solution
The association chose Moodle Workplace because of its capability to provide each school with its own private learning environment, allowing teachers to manage and track their students’ progress independently. For ANWB, centralised content management and seamless integration with their existing applications were compulsory requirements. Responding to these criteria made Moodle Workplace the ideal solution to meet the association’s specific needs.
The scope of the project involved adapting an external party’s didactic concept and translating the existing educational strategy, teaching methods, and techniques for developing more practical materials that can be engaging for the learners when using Moodle. While inspiring and well-crafted, the initial didactic concept required adjustments within Moodle’s framework. The process involved conducting a thorough inventory to evaluate needs and deploying a diverse team to ensure precise and efficient implementation.
A vital aspect of the didactic design was ‘collaborative learning,’ emphasising group-based activities and student interactions. However, Moodle Workplace supported developing teaching materials using SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) modules, which traditionally focus on individual learning experiences. To address this, Moodle Premium Partner Avetica developed additional features to facilitate online group assignments, ensuring that the collaborative learning component was effectively integrated into the Moodle Workplace platform.
The result
Kyra de Boer, Product Owner at ANWB Streetwise, said, “Avetica helped ANWB by providing a customised learning environment through Moodle Workplace that the schools from our network can use.”
The availability of extensive web services in Moodle Workplace allowed ANWB to integrate its existing applications seamlessly using a fully automated process. This capability streamlined their operations and empowered ANWB to maintain a centralised management system where changes to the teaching materials only had to be made once, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
Moodle Workplace also helped ANWB create private learning environments for each school, where teachers could open up learning materials and monitor student progress effectively. The platform’s user-friendly interface and comprehensive features facilitated an engaging and interactive educational environment, enhancing the overall quality of education provided by ANWB.
