Welcome to our series, Made with Moodle. Every month, we spotlight someone using the Moodle platform in creative, impactful ways. Have a story of your own? We’d love to hear it.
“It’s been truly inspiring for me to see people using the platform every day.”
IT manager Adil Ayaz Afridi began 2022 with a blank canvas and a big idea: to create a powerful digital learning environment for the NCS University System in Peshawar, Pakistan. He’d always been interested in digital tools — now, he saw an opportunity to transform the way the university delivered its programmes.
“What inspired me to start this project was my passion for using technology to modernise education,” he explains. Attendance tracking, course management, and other manual academic processes were tedious and time-consuming; Adil’s goal was to make them quick and simple. He also wanted to improve the student experience and boost engagement across subjects.
For Adil, this meant building an accessible ecosystem that felt intuitive for learners and gave educators the tools they needed to deliver a range of different health science programmes, including nursing, physical therapy, and radiological technology.
In the end, he chose Moodle LMS as the flexible foundation for a platform where faculty and students could easily share resources, explore ideas, and track their learning journeys. He did all the work in-house — from design to deployment — carefully customising each part of the learning management system (LMS) to match NCS’s academic structure. Moodle LMS’s modular, open-source design, along with its helpful and active community, made building the system much easier.
“Video lectures, online examinations, teacher evaluations, attendance-tracking tools, and other features all live in one centralised learning environment,” says Adil. To make sure everyone got on board smoothly, he ran hands-on faculty training sessions covering course creation, resource management, and online assessment setup.
Now, roughly 40 faculty members use NCS’s Moodle-based learning environment to teach more than 600 learners, including undergraduate students and established professionals, remotely and on campus in Peshawar. In a very real way, Adil’s work has helped shape the future of healthcare in Pakistan.
Looking ahead, Adil will create a video walkthrough of the LMS to show how its customisations and innovative features make a positive difference for both students and faculty at NCS.
“One of the most rewarding moments was the official LMS launch ceremony, where I demonstrated the system live in front of faculty, students, and the NCS administration,” smiles Adil. “It’s been truly inspiring for me to see people using the platform every day since then.”
