Martin Dougiamas, Head of Research, Moodle Research Lab
Martin Dougiamas, the founder of Moodle, has been at the forefront of the open-source learning platform’s development for over 20 years. In 2024, Martin transitioned into the role of Head of Research at the Moodle Research Lab, focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR). He is passionate about exploring the future of education and open-source technology.
In his presentation, ‘Using AI well in education’, Martin will explore the role of AI in education, addressing both the potential benefits and the challenges of integrating AI into learning environments. His presentation will focus on how AI can effectively enhance educational experiences for both learners and educators.
Marie Achour, Global Head of Product, Moodle HQ
Marie Achour, Global Head of Product at Moodle HQ, leads the teams responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Moodle product ecosystem. Marie’s experience in product strategy and customer-centric innovation has made her a key driver of Moodle’s growth and development.
Marie’s presentation about ‘Delivering the Moodle Product Vision’ will focus on Moodle’s product vision, sharing how her team is shaping the platform’s future to meet the changing needs of learners and educators. Jack Rice, Executive Director, Maple League of Universities
Jack Rice is a seasoned educator and academic leader. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Maple League of Universities and the Director of the Centre for Online Learning, Graduate & Professional Studies at St. Francis Xavier University. Jack’s career spans K-12 education and higher education leadership roles in Canada, Australia, and the United States, making him a reputable voice in the field of online and hybrid learning.
Jack will discuss the growing importance of hybrid learning models blending in-person and online education in his presentation, ‘Learning in the age of hybridity’. His will examine how hybrid learning reshapes educational practices and what educators must do to effectively navigate this new landscape to meet students’ needs.
Matt Porritt, LMS Platform Manager, Moodle HQ
Matt Porritt, the LMS Platform Manager at Moodle HQ, oversees the development and strategic direction of Moodle’s core learning management system. With over a decade of experience in Moodle development, administration, and implementation, Matt is an expert in delivering robust solutions for educational institutions. His leadership and technical expertise have played a key role in advancing the Moodle platform.
