May 14, 2018

It’s the start of a whole new week, which also means it’s your chance to learn more about Moodlers from around the world!

This Moodlers Monday we finding out more about the team at Moodle HQ, in particular our new People and Culture Lead, Holly Barnes.

Let’s find out what Holly has to say about her role, Moodle and her plans for the future:

Moodle HQ:Hi Holly, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today. Before, we jump into Moodle news, can we first start with you telling us a bit about yourself?

Holly: Thanks for having me! I’m excited to share a bit about People and Culture at Moodle HQ!

I joined Moodle six months ago to lead the People and Culture space and wow that six months has gone quickly. Prior to this I worked in a variety of different industries in various HR capacities – from Mining and Construction to Insurance to Telecommunications. My expertise is in Organisational Development which is HR speak for working with people and an organisation for positive growth.

Moodle HQ: Your role as a People and Culture Lead is new to Moodle HQ. Can you please tell us a bit about what it entails and what attracted you to it?

Holly: Personally I’m inspired to change the face of traditional HR to focus on culture, values, performance and leadership. When I got the opportunity to meet with Martin (CEO and Founder) and Rohan (COO), I saw that Moodle was aligned to this way of thinking I was really attracted to the role.

At the moment I am concentrating on building learning and development plans for everyone (it’s one of our values, education!), developing a coaching program, implementing regular engagement and feedback mechanisms and really amping up our on-boarding/ induction process.

It’s been really great so far because there is a lot of scope to have fun and all our team members want to get involved to make Moodle HQ awesome.

Moodle HQ: It sounds like Moodle’s culture is a huge part of your role, it’s even in your title! How are you hoping to further improve the culture at Moodle HQ?

Holly: We spend so much time at work and so I want to help make everyday a great day. One of our company goals is ‘To be a Top 10 Great Place to Work’ and so this is a driving force in everything I do. I ask and listen to what our team members want out of their careers at Moodle and work with the leadership team to develop initiatives to focus on them.

Moodle HQ: Wow with all of that going on we wouldn’t be surprised if members of our Moodle community wanted to join Moodle HQ.

Holly: We are always looking for great people to join HQ who believe in our values (education, openness, integrity, innovation and respect) and what we are trying to achieve with the Moodle project… empowering educators to improve our world. Anyone interested in applying for a position should send their CV to moodle@jobs.workablemail.com or visit our careers page.
