Last month we, Moodle HQ, landed in Brisbane for our annual Australian MoodleMoot.
Taking place in the iconic Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, we were joined by hundreds of members of the education and technology community. Attendees included people who have been “Moodlers” since our beginning, to those who were completely new to our platform.
Moodle was originally founded in Australia, over the years we have grown to reach over 130 million users from every country in the word. However, despite our international growth, MoodleMoots hosted in our country of origin are always uniquely exciting.
What happened at MoodleMoot Australia 2018?
We squeezed intense learning, teaching and networking into three (incredibly busy) days!
The moot began with a welcome to country and an acknowledgment to the original custodians of the land.

Then our Founder and CEO, Martin Dougiamas, took centre stage for his keynote address. Martin discussed Moodle’s mission and how we hope to achieve it: “Our mission is to empower educators to improve our world, our vision is to be the most effective platform for learning!”

Our second keynote speaker, Erica McWilliam, advocated for quality education in her speech. A teacher, consultant, writer and educational leader, Erica posed thought-provoking questions to attendees whilst challenging them to reconsider the meaning of “average”.

As with all MoodleMoots hosted in Australia, we also celebrated with an awesome party. The “hat-themed” event took place at Fox Hotel and featured acrobats, live music, mega JENGA and a magician.
