We are thrilled to announce the provisional program for MoodleMoot Global 2023, our highly anticipated event that will take place in the vibrant city of Barcelona this September.
The conference will bring together educators, administrators, developers and learners from around the world to celebrate the importance of lifelong learning, connect, and collaborate with each other.
After receiving over 170 abstracts from experts from all around the world, our team had the challenging task of selecting the best presentations for this year’s event. Here are some of the main highlights of this year’s program:

MoodleMoot Global 2023 encompasses a diverse range of themes, catering to various interests and expertise in the EdTech space. The key themes that will be explored during the event are:

Get ready for an ultimate speaker line
MoodleMoot Global 2023 is proud to present a lineup of interesting and diverse speakers that will share their insights and vision for the future of learning. There will be five different presentation methods at this year’s event: 5-minute lighting talks, 15-minute short presentations, 30-minute presentations, workshops between 60–120 minutes, panel discussions, and poster presentations.
Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect:
- “Lifelong Intelligence” with Martin Dougiamas
Martin Dougiamas, Founder, and CEO of Moodle, is a renowned speaker and EdTech leader who will provide an overview of the current state of AI in education. During his keynote presentation, he will summarise current opportunities with AI and deliver prognostications for the future of Moodle and learning management in general.
- “Open source? Open platform? Open standards?” with Brett Dalton
Brett Dalton, Head of Educational Solutions at Moodle, will present a vision for the future of the Moodle platform, highlighting the importance of using existing and emerging educational standards to drive the platform forward. Brett is a seasoned EdTech professional who oversees the product management of the student and academic experience within Moodle. His talk is relevant to all levels of the community, the continued health of the platform, and the wider EdTech environment.
- “Using Moodle Analytics to predict student success” with Stephane Urēna
We will have the pleasure of listening to Stephane Urēna from ESSEC Business School, who will introduce Moodle Analytics and its role in modern education, explaining the need for predictive models in identifying at-risk students. He will share more about ESSEC Business School project and how harnessing the power of predictive analytics can inform an intervention strategy that aims to enhance a students’ learning journey and, in turn, their academic performance.
- “Human-connected, game-based learning on Moodle” with Tom Wambeke and Atish Gonsalves
This interactive workshop, presented by Tom Wambeke and Atish Gonsalves from Gamoteca, will share how human connection, practice, collaboration and feedback are an essential part of the learning process, especially online. It will highlight practical examples and case studies from UN agencies and NGOs and demonstrate how to integrate human-connected, game-based learning experiences with Moodle.
- “Unleashing Moodle’s potential in a Public Research Centre” with Anna Sole Amat
Sharing Moodle experiences from the community is always popular at MoodleMoot Global. A good example is a presentation by Anna Sole Amat from Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) on Unleashing Moodle’s potential in a Public Research Centre. During this session, Anna will share the valuable insights gained from her experience developing Moodle-based online courses, meetings, and even the recruitment process. She will provide concrete examples, including activities, tools used and will discuss the invaluable lessons learned and how to implement future courses effectively.
