Day three of MoodleMoot Global 2025…this is only the beginning!

septembre 19, 2025 By Barnana Sarkar

It’s never easy to say goodbye to something that we have looked forward to. But every good thing comes to an end, and on the last day of MoodleMoot Global 2025, we got to witness another round of excellent sessions.

While on day one and day two we explored how to best shape the future of education, on day three — it seemed — we were already in that future.

Nurturing growth in the Industry 5.0 era

Seeing Dr. Naeema Pasha in action and speaking about the integration of human intelligence with AI was mind-altering. She painted a vivid picture of Industry 5.0 as a framework that already demands our attention.

She emphasised that, unlike previous industrial paradigms, Industry 5.0 is characterised by human-machine symbiosis: places where human creativity, emotional intelligence, and ethical reasoning work hand-in-hand with advanced AI.

Industry 5.0 doesn’t discard the hard lessons of earlier industrial eras. Dr. Pasha urged leaders and educators to think beyond purely technical innovation, to consider sustainability, human well-being, and the broader societal impact of AI.

Perhaps most compelling among her points was the call to be bold in imagining what future learning and work could, and should, be. Not to wait passively for the future to unfold, but to lead, to shape, to integrate human values with technological possibility.

Engaging adult brains to drive behaviour changes

Adults, too, have a hard time focusing, and sometimes we can do with a little help! Nadia Perujo from Moodle HQ took the stage with “May I have your attention, please? Engaging adult brains to drive behaviour change”. This session dug into how adult learners respond differently when it comes to capturing attention, sustaining engagement, and changing behaviour, especially in digital learning environments.

Nadia emphasised that adult brains don’t just passively absorb content. They filter, prioritise, resist distraction, and require relevance and meaning to stay engaged. It’s not enough to present content; you have to make it matter.

The session was a lot about how you design for attention. Nadia discussed ways to prompt and support change: feedback loops, reflection, scaffolding, real-world applications.

Beyond the play button with Vimeo and VideoTime

One of the most practical highlights of day three came from Vimeo and bdecent, who teamed up to showcase VideoTime, a Moodle plugin designed to transform the role of video in learning.

Instead of treating video as a one-way stream, VideoTime reimagines it as an interactive learning experience. With tools like in-video quizzes, branching logic, and calls-to-action, educators can move beyond simple playback to create lessons that spark curiosity and measure understanding in real time.

To illustrate the point, the presenters slipped into two roles: a “Student of Moodle University” and a “Head of IT.” Through these personas, they highlighted common pain points — like dispersed video content across platforms, the difficulty of managing access at scale, and the lack of engagement data to show real learner impact.

And that’s a wrap…or is it?

Every good thing has to come to an end, and that’s how it simply must be. As we close in on the last day of MoodleMoot Global, one of our most beloved Moodlers, Mary Cooch a.k.a. the Moodle Fairy, announced her retirement. A linguaphile, Mary has been with Moodle HQ in various roles for over a decade. She has seen Moodle evolve and grow. We hope that this relationship and love that she shared with Moodle will remain, and in whatever capacity we will continue to see more of her.

The closing ceremony was also the perfect opportunity to declare the winners of the Moodle Costume Party. And the award for the Best Costume went to Jarno Aantjes and Amy Foxwell from ReadSpeaker.

That called for a wrap! 3 days, 740 attendees from 59 countries! We were absolutely thrilled to have all of you, and we have a whole new MIX coming up soon. Curious to know more?
