Moodle 3.1 update: improve the quality of forum discussions with updated features

Moodle 3.1 has implemented a list of user-requested improvements into forum discussions.

In all new courses created, the “News forum” is now known as “Announcements”.

The simple title allows educators to capture the attention of students when they need to be updated with important news and information.

The functionality of forums has also been improved for both educators and students.

Teachers are now able to pin important forum posts to the top of the page. This can be done when posts are created or by editing them afterwards in the administrative interface. This feature is especially useful for educators, as important posts like FAQs and forum rules will be seen by students upon entering the forum. This saves students from having to locate essential information in a sea of posts.

Another update worth noting is the permalink feature.

Every post made in Moodle 3.1 now comes with an option to create a “permalink”. A permalink allows you to directly link to a specific forum post so it can be easily shared with others. Clicking “permalink” highlights the specific post you are sharing, so users can be sure that they are sharing the correct information. Moodle users can then copy and paste this link (made available in the browser bar) to other discussions and share it.
