Moodle appoints Scott Anderberg as new CEO

December 14, 2023 By Moodle

Moodle is proud to announce the appointment of Scott Anderberg as its new Chief Executive Officer following an extensive, worldwide search process.  Scott will replace Moodle Founder Martin Dougiamas, who, after 24 years as CEO, announced in July 2023 his intention to transition to Head of Research to focus on the use of transformative technologies in education.

Scott is a highly accomplished global education leader with over 20 years of experience in the eLearning industry.  He began his career at eCollege, an eLearning software and services provider. His expertise is best defined by his 15 years of experience with Pearson, the world-leading learning company with 20,000 employees globally.  Scott has an excellent track record of achieving portfolio growth through multiple leadership roles at Pearson, including his tenure as Vice President of Pearson Online Learning Services, leading the international business through rapid growth and serving students from more than 150 countries.

Moodle’s Founder, Martin Dougiamas, said, “I am very happy we found Scott Anderberg in our search for a new CEO.  Scott has shown he understands and respects the values-driven mission that defines Moodle while bringing the seasoned commercial leadership that Moodle needs for its sustainability.  I’m confident he’s a great fit for the team, and I’m looking forward to him driving positive improvements in our strategy and team culture.”

Martin will remain CEO until the end of January 2024 and also continue as a shareholder and Chairman of Moodle’s board of directors.

Scott Anderberg said, “I couldn’t be more excited to join the team at Moodle and guide them through this next chapter of development and growth.  My career has been motivated by a keen interest in increasing access to educational opportunities in markets where affordability and personal obligations make that challenging.  No education company has done more to overcome these barriers globally than Moodle. Moodle has an incredible global footprint, and I’m excited by the opportunities to develop its impact in supporting people across their lifelong learning journey, whether in formal education settings like schools and universities or throughout their career.”

As CEO, Scott will report to Moodle’s Board of Directors and be responsible for sustainably delivering Moodle’s long-term growth strategy, ensuring its operational performance, team leadership, product excellence and enhancing relationships with global stakeholders, including Moodle’s network of Certified Partners.

Pierre Guerin, Moodle Board Member and AFIR General Secretary, said, “We are pleased to welcome Scott as our new Chief Executive.  He has proven commercial and strategic capabilities in growing online education organisations and is committed to the unique importance of equity in education.  We look forward to Scott steering Moodle’s ongoing growth trajectory.

“I’d also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge Martin’s incredible contribution to education globally.  He is a talented and inspirational entrepreneur in the EdTech field. We are excited about his decision to focus on research and investigation of new education technologies and what this will bring to Moodle.”

Scott will commence as CEO of Moodle in February 2024.
