Learning is our most powerful tool to build a better future, and that’s exactly what day one of MoodleMoot Global 2025 was all about! Every speaker, every participant, and every workshop seemed to work collectively towards that common goal of learning to shape tomorrow.
After what seemed like a long wait, we were thrilled to welcome 740 attendees in Edinburgh, Scotland, to mark the beginning of an amazing global EdTech conference. Day one was packed with insightful presentations and a lot of learning…but most of all, we met some of the brilliant Moodlers who taught us a lot. Here’s a quick glimpse at everything that went down.
Building a better future for learning with Scott Anderberg, Moodle CEO
Learning isn’t only about how we build the future, but also how we figure out how to build it. Scott’s opening talk at MoodleMoot Global 2025 discussed Moodle’s collective mission to provide the best possible solutions to make learning accessible and inclusive.
“One of the most exciting things [about leading Moodle] has been getting to see that kind of creative contribution from the community — whether it’s the way people think about implementing what’s already in the software, or the things they think about extending or adding to the software. That kind of creativity makes for a very rich learning environment,” says Scott.
As he spoke about our goal to encourage optimistic and innovative change through education, he set the stage for all the discussions that will help shape tomorrow, today.
Streamlining the examination process with Ans
Ans is creating a better future for learning by making exam grading more convenient. William Hagen presented to us some real-world examples of institutions that have been using the Ans integration with Moodle to make their examination process more insightful. Ans has created an environment that stimulates collaboration and knowledge sharing, allowing educators to use data to gain a better understanding of each learner’s competencies.
Using AI to transform admin support and learning
Wouldn’t it be so much better if your Moodle site could manage itself? That’s exactly what Accipio’s MCP Agent helps with. Their AI-powered assistant, which integrates directly with Moodle’s API, automates all kinds of high-volume, repetitive admin tasks.
Accipio shared working examples to show how the AI agent does all the administrative support tasks. They also previewed their wider AI-enhanced plugin ecosystem to give us a glimpse of what is next on their roadmap. Accipio also officially announced the upgraded version of its AccipioOne shop plugin for Moodle at the Moot, bringing even more streamlined e-commerce and training management features to the platform.
Accessibility legislation
Attending Jarno Aantjes’ talk on accessibility legislation gave us real insight into how legal requirements are so much more than compliance checklists: they have a powerful role to play in inclusive and competitive education.
Jarno walked us through global frameworks such as the European Accessibility Act, ADA, and the UK’s Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations, showing how these policies, when embraced strategically, create opportunities to enhance learner success and strengthen institutional reputation.
10 years of insight
Becky Keith’s session was more like a story of lessons learned on Intelliboard’s 10th anniversary. She spoke about how universities and companies are actually using dashboards and insights to keep learners on track. The examples included
What stood out was how these strategies were about making data human — turning it into decisions that directly impact progress and retention.
This is only the beginning
Day one gave us a powerful start, full of ideas, conversations, and connections that reminded us why learning really is the key to shaping tomorrow. Day two promises nothing less! There will be plenty of opportunities to connect with your fellow Moodlers. And don’t forget, it’s the day of the Moodle Party!
