The Moodle Educator Certification (MEC) is being renamed to become Moodle Educator Qualification (MEQ). This rebranding comes with a fresh, new-look certificate, but rest assured, the program remains the same at its core—designed to empower educators and learning professionals with the skills they need to succeed in the digital world. In 2025, we will introduce a new Moodle Administrator Qualification (MAQ) designed for administrators who want to validate their expertise and advance their careers.

What is the Moodle Educator Qualification?

separator

The MEQ is a qualification program for educators, or learning and development professionals, who have experience in teaching or training with Moodle LMS or Moodle Workplace. The MEQ emphasises the importance of developing pedagogic and professional competencies to enhance and innovate online education and training. Although it is not a training program, as participants progress through the qualification process they will reflect on their practice and this will strengthen their understanding and confidence when teaching with Moodle.

MEQ is based on the widely used and accepted European Framework for the Digital Competence for Educators (DigCompEdu). It is a six-course qualification program that allows experienced Moodle educators or learning and development professionals to demonstrate their expertise in teaching or creating learning development programs with Moodle LMS or Moodle Workplace and obtain an official qualification certificate directly from Moodle.

Structure of the Moodle Educator Qualification program

separator

The MEQ program provides educators with a place to demonstrate digital competencies using the Moodle platform.

The full MEQ program consists of 22 competencies, based on the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu).

The MEQ is offered through our Certified Service Providers who have been trained and certified by Moodle HQ to facilitate the qualification program.

Final qualification will be determined by Moodle HQ and you will be awarded a certificate from Moodle upon successful completion of the program.

Please note that MEC credentials are still valid! The program structure, assessment, and benefits remain exactly the same, meaning your journey towards becoming a highly qualified Moodle educator will proceed smoothly. If you choose to, you can ask for a regeneration of your MEC certificate to the new MEQ certificate at qualifications@moodle.com.

FAQs

  • Why is the MEC being renamed?

The Moodle Educator Certification (MEC) is being renamed to the Moodle Educator Qualification (MEQ) to create a clearer and more distinctive qualification system. This change helps avoid confusion, especially when differentiating between individual qualifications and the services offered by Moodle Certified Partners. While the name changes, the program’s value, structure, and content remain the same.

  • Will I get a new certificate?

No, the MEC certificate is the equivalent of the MEQ certificate, so you can continue to use the MEC certificate. However, if you wish to request an MEQ Certificate, you can contact us at qualifications@moodle.com.
