Today, Moodle announces a partnership with Brickfield Education Labs to improve accessibility in Moodle and Moodle content in order to reduce barriers and maximise learning opportunities for all kinds of learners.
Brickfield Education Labs provides organisations and education institutions using Moodle with a toolkit to assess and improve their content by finding, fixing and future-proofing content accessibility within Moodle courses.
Moodle LMS, the open source platform at the heart of the Moodle ecosystem, has constantly evolved through a commitment to pedagogy and equality. CEO and Founder, Martin Dougiamas says, “Accessibility for all has been a constant focus for Moodle LMS as a learning platform over the years and consequently our tools include a range of accessibility features designed to help accommodate individual differences in line with international best practices.
“A problem we’ve faced is that the content uploaded by educators and learners may not meet common accessibility requirements. I’m very pleased that we have a partnership now with Brickfield Education Labs who will work with us and organisations who use Moodle to help address this important issue.”
As part of the partnership with Moodle, Brickfield Education Labs will host a free conference online for organisations using Moodle looking to improve their understanding of digital content accessibility and seeking help in addressing their existing challenges. The programme will consist of a mix of short practical workshops and presentations by accessibility specialists. The online conference will take place in late June and registrations will open in April.
Gavin Henrick, Brickfield Education Labs CEO and Co-Founder, says, “With the recent push to deliver more teaching online, it is more important than ever to ensure that the teaching materials and assessments are usable by all students. We are very happy to work with Moodle to improve the toolkit that organisations have to deliver accessible course content.”
Moodle is the world’s most trusted online learning solution. The heart of the Moodle ecosystem is Moodle LMS, the open source learning management platform with inherent security and privacy features used by over 250 million learners worldwide. Developed in conjunction with Moodle’s loyal community, Moodle LMS allows educators in any sector to create safe, accessible, flexible and highly engaging online spaces for their learners.
The learning and development functionalities of Moodle LMS has given birth to a range of ancillary Moodle products and services including Moodle Workplace, the customisable platform transforming workplace learning and Moodle App which improves the experience of Moodle LMS and Moodle Workplace on touch screen devices. Moodle’s range of services include MoodleCloud, a low cost and low maintenance hosting solution, and a network of certified partners and service providers who deliver expertise in hosting, customisation, support and training to ensure the success of online learning projects.
Moodle’s vision for a more equitable and accessible approach to education is supported by Moodle Academy, an institution for learning about online education with Moodle, and the development of MoodleNet, a network where educators can share and curate open education resources.
