Although Africa has the world’s youngest population, with 70% under the age of 30, its education system still faces three key challenges. According to a study, nearly 98 million children are out of school due to a lack of access to educational resources. The continent is also short nearly 15 million teachers, and the skills gap curbs economic growth, particularly for women.
This is why digital transformation of education can make a voluminous impact on learners and educators. In fact, educators across the continent are finding creative ways to use technology and redefine the teaching landscape. School leaders are adopting digital tools to streamline administrative processes, freeing up time and resources for their students. Teachers are gaining training opportunities through online materials. This shift in leadership has encouraged teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms.
MoodleMoot Africa is a celebration of exactly that shift in mindset!
African educators, policy makers, and technologists are leveraging Moodle to build resilient digital ecosystems that can help the continent drive forward towards a technologically advanced future.
Why you need to be there
If you’re someone who believes that education should be accessible to everyone, and technology is the key to making it accessible, then you should be there. The conference aims to provide an ideal platform for the pan-African education community to showcase their innovation, share experiences, and learn from each other about the best approaches and strategies. Ultimately, strengthen a community that aligns with the continental development goals.
Moodlers from all over Africa will be there to share some of the best practices and create sustainable solutions to improve the quality of eLearning. You will have the opportunity to network with Moodle experts and learn about the future of Moodle. You will also witness some of the most interesting innovations that can make your Moodle platform ideal for all your teaching and learning needs.
What you need to know about this year’s event
This year’s conference, taking place from 8–10 October 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria, is built around the theme: “Leveraging the Power of Disruptive Technologies for Africa’s Educational Transformation.” It’s a theme that speaks to what many teachers, technologists, and policymakers are working on every day, using digital tools to bridge gaps and create more inclusive education.
The event kicks off with a pre-conference day on 8 October, filled with workshops, training sessions, technical discussions, and panels with both students and practitioners. Over the following days, the programme will bring together a diverse mix of voices, including educators, developers, researchers, and leaders.
And you cannot miss out on Abuja!
One of the best parts about any MoodleMoot is the location, and Abuja, as the capital city of Nigeria, won’t cease to surprise you. Other than being a political centre in the heart of Nigeria, Abuja mirrors the country’s history, diversity, and spirit of growth.
You can take a trip to the Aso Rock, which is a huge granite outcrop that is hard to miss due to its dominating the skyline. You could also visit the Nigerian National Mosque and the Anglican Church, which symbolise the city’s religious harmony.
And if you really want to get a taste of the local life, you should try out the Wuse Market for all the right reasons – the buzz, the energy of overflowing crafts, fabrics, and the kind of everyday encounters that you can only get in a soulful city.
The city is a fitting host for MoodleMoot Africa 2025: a city that, like the conference, brings people together and points toward the future.
And if you’re interested, there will also be a tour of Abuja on October 11, 2025.
