Moodle’s B Corp recertification is here, and our impact has grown

July 25, 2025 By Tamara Smith

We have some exciting news to share! After a rigorous renewal process, Moodle has officially been recertified as a B Corporation (B Corp)™ — and this time, our certification includes the US and India.

Recertifying as a B Corp shows our continued commitment to using business as a force for good and empowering educators to improve our world. Encouragingly, our score has also gone up nearly 30 points, rising from 81.6 in 2021 to 111 today, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every single person at Moodle.

We believe that successfully achieving recertification, especially with such a significant increase in our score, proves that we embed our purpose into everything we do. In short, we’re delighted, and we’re so glad you’re on this journey with us.

Key facts about Moodle's certification as a B Corp. We're committed to empowering educators with open-source tools and operating transparently while holding ourselves accountable. We also pledge to create positive impact for our team, community, and planet, and champion access to education for all. Image

Living our mission every day

At Moodle, we consider B Corp far more than a token gesture or a branding tactic. For us, it’s a serious, ongoing commitment to aligning our practices with our values, holding ourselves accountable and changing our world for the better in a measurable way.

We make decisions and apply ways of working that positively impact educators, learners, HQ team members, customers, society and the environment. Education, respect, integrity, openness, and innovation are all values at the heart of our community — in fact, they’ve been an integral part of Moodle for a very long time, which is why it makes sense for us to be a B Corp.

“I’m very proud of our team for achieving B Corp recertification with such a big improvement in our impact score. This milestone reflects what Moodle has always been about: using technology to make education more accessible and collaborative for everyone, everywhere,” says Moodle CEO Scott Anderberg.

“Martin founded Moodle after his own experiences with distance learning in rural Australia because he believed that everyone deserves access to quality education,” he continues. “More than 20 years later, over 460 million people worldwide learn with Moodle — from learners in major cities to those in remote areas where the electricity and technology infrastructure can be scarce and unpredictable.”

How we’re growing our global impact

Since our last certification, Moodle has grown to include operations in the US and India. So, this time, we had to complete two separate evaluations to show that we meet B Corp standards across our different locations, legal frameworks, and business environments.

We’ve always operated with people and planet in mind, and now our expanded certification officially recognises that commitment in the US and India, too. Educators and learners working with us in these regions can be confident that they’re partnering with an organisation that prioritises social and environmental impact alongside profit.

We’re incredibly proud of the global Moodle team, whose dedication to our mission and values made this recertification possible. Their work not only helps us lead in the EdTech space but also ensures we do it in a way that’s responsible, ethical, and focused on creating positive impact worldwide. Cheers to the next few years!
