There are two weeks left before Moodle 3.6 comes out and our Moodle HQ and community developers are working on the last stages of testing to deliver the upcoming powerful, feature-packed release. Today we bring you an insight into some of the new elements and advantages that Moodle 3.6 will bring to boost your e-learning projects.
GDPR follow up: additional and user-friendly settings
Building on the privacy features implemented in Moodle 3.5 for GDPR, 3.6 comes with more customisable privacy settings. Based on user feedback, we have now made policies optional as a welcome enhancement. The data exports are more human-readable and links to contact the Privacy officer are clearer. All in all, Moodle site users will have a better picture of how their data is used.
Course overview: customisable display
Navigating through your courses and assignments on the Dashboard is now easier. Keep better track of deadlines and sort and filter them easily with the new Timeline block. Hide or star courses in the course overview and display recently accessed items in a separate block to quickly return where you left off.
Nextcloud integration
Moodle is open source; Nextcloud is open source. It make sense for the two to join forces. Thanks to our community developers, learners and educators will be able to connect to Nextcloud and share files inside Moodle courses.
Support for version 2 of the Open Badges specification
Great news for badge collectors! Thanks to some useful new settings, teachers and trainers can include versions, language and image author details when setting up a badge. There are also options for including third party endorsements and referencing external competencies.
Assignment feedback: add files and media
When the Atto editor introduced the possibility of students recording audio and video in assignments, enthusiastic Moodlers rushed to request this for assignment grading. So now, if you’re grading assignments, you will now be able to record your feedback as sound or video, and supplement it with files and images.
Messages, Quizzes, Moodle app and more!
If you’ve ever wished you could message a group in your course instead of each member individually, you’ll welcome the new group messaging feature which comes along with improved control over who can message you. And thanks to the Moodle Users Association, statistics for random quiz questions will be much clearer to read and interpret. As usual, a short time after the release of Moodle 3.6, we can expect a updated version of the Moodle app and this time, it will come with infinite scrolling and much faster performance.

Today, Monday 12 November, sees the release of Moodle 3.5.3, along with Moodle 3.4.6 and Moodle 3.3.9.
