Delivering quality education starts with a simple principle: design everything around the learner. That focus shaped day two at MoodleMoot Global 2025, where our speakers explored how the latest technologies can build more equitable learning and training environments for all. Moodle’s founder, Martin Dougiamas, led an interactive session on Moodle and AI, sparking conversations about the future of learning.
From there, the day unfolded with sessions that carried this same theme forward, showing how innovation and inclusivity go hand in hand. And of course, we wrapped it all up with the much-anticipated Moodle Party, which felt like a step into the future itself.
Shaping the future of education
Marie Achour’s keynote was rooted in vision and pragmatism. With a steady authority, she described how Moodle’s product strategy is evolving. She is leading a team that is more agile and impact-driven than ever, with a sharper focus on delivering features that truly matter to educators and learners worldwide.
She highlighted the improvements in user experience, accessibility, and new tools being designed to meet the needs of learners. As she spoke, it felt less like a roadmap presentation and more like an invitation for the community to co-create Moodle’s future together.
Tapping into the neurodivergent talent
By the afternoon, the spotlight shifted to accessibility with Amy Foxwell from ReadSpeaker, who delivered one of the most human-centred talks of the day: “Tapping into Neurodivergent Talent: Leveraging Universal Design for Learning and Text-to-Speech for Learner Success.”
Amy began with a simple yet powerful reminder: access isn’t niche, it’s universal.
Her focus was on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how tools like text-to-speech (TTS) can level the playing field. The examples she painted were relatable and tangible: a dyslexic student using audio and text highlighting to follow along more easily, a multilingual learner replaying tricky passages, or a busy professional listening to course material on the go.
Her talk felt like a call to rethink inclusivity, and judging by the nods around the room, that message landed exactly as intended.
Scaling learning: The UN’s Moodle Workplace story
Around 4 pm, the Fintry Room’s energy shifted when Ugo Caruso, Sofia Exarchou (UNSSC), and Kenny McCormack (Synergy Learning) presented “Scaling Learning: The UN’s Moodle Workplace Story.” They talked about how a sprawling institution like the UN can harness Moodle Workplace not merely as a platform, but as a catalyst for systemic educational transformation.
The session kicked off with the challenge facing the United Nations System Staff College: delivering equitable, policy-aligned learning across a decentralised web of agencies. In UNSSC’s hands, Moodle Workplace became the backbone of a digital learning ecosystem, designed to scale thoughtfully across borders and bureaucracies.
Through strategic customisations, supported by a partnership with Synergy Learning and Moodle HQ, the platform evolved into a dynamic learning hub. During this session — proving that innovation never rests — they introduced their latest milestone: an AI-powered recommendation system designed to take personalisation and user engagement to the next level.
And the much-awaited Party of the year!
What happened at the party stays at the party! But here are some amazing glimpses of the party.
We ended on a high note with the Moodle Party, but the momentum doesn’t stop there. Tomorrow, day three promises another round of thought-provoking talks, hands-on sessions, and opportunities to connect. If day two was about reimagining what’s possible, day three is about taking that vision even further.
