Moodle Partners Global Meeting 2022 – Monday 26 September
This year’s MoodleMoot Global kicked off with our Moodle Partners Global Meeting 2022, plus the Dev Jam (Hackathon).
The Moodle Partners Global Meeting, attracted 92 partner representatives from 40 individual Moodle Certified partners from all over the world.
It was great to meet our partners face-to-face and allow us the opportunity to network, collaborate, and innovate together. We would like to thank all of our partners for being such an integral part of Moodle.
Dev Jam (Hackathon) – Monday 26 September
Our Dev Jam (Hackathon) was a session for Moodle programmers of any level to come together and discuss Moodle development. This was a great opportunity for anyone interested in how the Moodle development process works. Participants were invited to bring a list of bugs and improvements they wanted to be included in Moodle LMS and learned how to integrate them.
MoodleMoot Global day one – Tuesday 27 September
MoodleMoot Global 2022 got off to a great start with a first day packed with talks, workshops and networking opportunities. Over 775 Moodlers, from educators to administrators and developers, were all gathered for the first face-to-face global Moot since 2019.
CEO and founder of Moodle, Martin Dougiamas, then delivered his keynote speech, discussing “Where we can take Moodle next”. Martin’s speech emphasised that as we progress further into industry 4.0, AI and VR, it is more important than ever to collaborate to progress open infrastructure and learning. In particular, to counteract profit-focussed organisation seeking to maximise financial returns rather than benefit society.
Throughout the Moot, morning and afternoon coffee breaks provided a chance to network with fellow Moodlers and reflect on the important points made in the keynote presentation.
Posters were also presented, covering topics from Virtualise my face-to-face training: What should I keep in mind by Xenia Ingles to Team time — Facilitating learners to work in heterogeneous groups by Silke Gausche.
There was also the opportunity to visit our sponsors stands and find out more about their great work. There were 22 sponsors in attendance at this year’s Moot, including platinum sponsors Catalyst IT and 3ipunt Solutions, and Gold sponsors ReadSpeaker and Wooclap.
Sessions in the main three rooms included supporting an international and diverse community, Using Moodle in unique and unexpected ways and Integrations/Healthcare. In the workshop room, talks and workshops were given on Accessibility and UX.
MoodleMoot Global day two
On day two of the MoodleMoot we were joined by our keynote Andreia Inamorato. At the intersection of research and policy, Andreia’s work contributes to identifying opportunities and challenges in implementing information and communication technologies (ICT) to modernise teaching, learning and training practices in Europe.
Andreia spoke to us on the important topic of ‘Educating for the future: the transformative power of openness’ and explained that progressing an open education model requires commitment at a policy, organisation/institution and individual level.
In the main three rooms, talks were given on Moodle Workplace, Realising the full potential of Moodle, and Supporting an international and diverse community. In the workshop room, talks and workshops were given on Performing brain surgery on the beating heart of Moodle and Adapting course formats to 4.0. There was also a Moodle NextGen Workshop, Moodle NextGen as an Open Edtech component, from Martin Dougiamas.
MoodleMoot Global costume party
On the second night of the Moot we ‘travelled back in time’ at our retro-themed costume party. It was great to see everyone dressed up and everybody got into the time travel spirit in the historical venue. There was even a prize for the best costume, with the lucky winner receiving a free ticket to next year’s Moot.
MoodleMoot Global day three
Day three of the Moot started with a panel discussion on “Learning Management Systems: What does the future hold?” from a keynote panel of speakers hosted by Shalimar Anderson from Moodle US.
Sessions on this day included talks on MoodleNet/MoodleApps, Moodle site management and integrations and Learning Design. In the workshop room there were two Educator Workshops and a Moodle Products Workshop.
There was a closing session held by Martin Dougiamas, to officially mark the end of MoodleMoot Global 2022. This was followed by our final daily wrap-up, with a chance to enjoy a last networking beer and say goodbye until next year.
Community is at the heart of Moodle, it is through our collaborative efforts that we work towards a more equitable world where everyone can pursue a quality education. Thank you for joining us this year to create an unforgettable MoodleMoot Global 2022.
We look forward to seeing you all again, as well as those who couldn’t make it this year, at next year’s Moot Global to learn from each other, explore and share best practices for the future of education.
