Introducing the first ever MoodleMajlis in Dubai

March 7, 2017

More MoodleMoot exciting news keeps on coming: the first ever Moodle Majlis in Dubai will be held on 16 – 17 April 2017.

Organised by our Moodle Partner, Smartway, Moodle Majlis is a two-day conference bringing together diverse and talented Moodlers from across the Middle East.

The conference aims to bring relevant information on edtech for all sectors including the education arena, small and large business and industry, as well as from the nonprofit and government industries.

Moodle Majlis will feature keynote presentations, masterclasses, panel sessions, a Gala dinner and other activities.

If you are a teacher, educational administrator, software developer, content developer, or IT manager then this conference will be of interest to you.

If you are already using Moodle, then you can pick up ideas on how to use it more effectively as a teaching and research tool.

If you are new to Moodle, then you can learn a lot from the hands-on workshops, and from talking to experienced users and suppliers of Moodle-related services, such as hosting a Moodle site and creating e-learning materials.

Moodle HQ recently talked to Samer Faissal, Moodle Majlis – Dubai organiser to find out about what participants can expect at the first Moodle Majlis 2017.

Moodle HQ: Thank you, Samer for taking the time to talk to us about Moodle Majlis Dubai 2017. Can you tell us a little bit of background about Moodle Majlis? How it started and why you have decided to hold the first official Moodle Majlis this year in Dubai?

Samer:Dubai is a cosmopolitan city which has educators from all over the world.
Many of these educators were happy using Moodle in their home countries and they decided to transfer this positive experience to their organisations here.
When I decided to join Smartway as their Regional Manager in Dubai, the first task on my agenda was to organise a MoodleMoot, a few months later, Moodle Majlis Dubai was born.

Moodle HQ: This is the first ever Moodle Majlis in Dubai. What are some of the activities planned?

Samer: Moodle Majlis will take place in Dubai Downtown, a walking distance from Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. We will host speakers and attendees from different parts of the world to share their experiences using Moodle.

We will also have few social activities to make sure our guests are taken care of.

Moodle HQ: Proposals for presentations are currently open for Moodle Majlis 2017. Can you tell us a bit about this stage – is there a theme for submissions, how do people submit a presentation proposal and by what date?

Samer: Speakers are requested to send an outline about their presentations. The outline should be one or two paragraphs in length enough for reviewers to understand what they wish to present.

Shortlisted outlines will be asked to send their presentations. Speakers can use the following email address for their submissions: samer@smartway-me.com.

Moodle HQ: Lastly, if people would like to attend and register, or keep up to date with updates on Moodle Majlis Dubai 2017, what is the best way to do that?

Samer: Educators who would like to attend Moodle Majlis should visit:moodlemoot.org/majlis/ . Here, they will read the details and then fill a simple form. Our team members will be more than happy to assist them from there.

Thank you, Samer for taking the time to talk to Moodle HQ about the upcoming (and exciting) MoodleMoot Majlis – Dubai 2017.
