MoodleMoot Francophone gets ready for its 15th anniversary

May 23, 2019 By Júlia Verdaguer

MoodleMoot Francophone is the annual French-speaking conference about the use of technology in Education, and especially the open-source LMS Moodle.

Organised by a different University each year with the help of the MoodleMootFr Association, the event provides teachers, IT managers and developers of educational and training institutions with a space to develop skills in workshops, network and exchange good practices and tips and to improve educational practices with Moodle.

Today we speak with Luiggi Sansonetti, Moodle expert for our new French Moodle Partner E-Learning Touch’ and at EDHEC Business School and main organiser with the University of Rennes of MoodleMoot Francophone 2019, which is taking place on July 3-5 in Rennes, France.

Moodle HQ: Luiggi, this year is a very special one for the French Moodle community: you are celebrating the 15th MoodleMoot Francophone. Congratulations! Are there special things planned for the anniversary?

Luiggi: Thank you. it’s really a special year because 15 years is a long time. The 1st edition took place in Brittany in Brest and this year, the conference is back in its homeland!

There will always be the same friendliness, the richness of the exchanges and we hope for the quality of the program. There will of course be music, perhaps traditional Breton dances and other culinary specialities. There will be other surprises, but I can’t reveal them yet.

Moodle HQ: How has the use of edtech and Moodle in French-speaking institutions changed in the past 15 years, and how has the French Moodle Community and its Moodle conferences evolved?

Luiggi: Moodle is increasingly present in the landscape of the student or even the learner.

Nowadays, almost all universities use Moodle. Business schools are also using it more and more. But it is also in earlier stages that the educational system has discovered the benefits of an LMS, and academies at secondary school level are now providing these tools to their students.

Moodle HQ: You have just released the program for #MootFR19 – what are some of the highlights?

Luiggi: The theme for this year’s Moot is “Valuation, Recognition and Motivation”. We will talk about open badges and peer recognition, competency-based assessment, motivation and gamification with serious games, H5P plugins.

We’ll also have classical discussions about portfolios, hybrid courses, admin…

There is also a new feature this year, the “to your good code” session.  This session allows someone to come and present their plugin under development, to propose an orphan plugin to take over, or to develop a plugin according to a detailed need. We share, and we work together to try to transform a request into a plugin by respecting the development codes. We will see if this formula is interesting, but it is part of sharing and discovering what the other is doing!

Moodle HQ: And finally, how can people keep up with the latest updates for MootFR19 before and during the event?

Luiggi: In addition to the dedicated sites below for the event, we have a CM for our social networks on Twitter https://twitter.com/mootfr19 and facebook https://www.facebook.com/mootfr19/

And a big thanks to the whole team that supports the organization of this edition.
