Introducing Moodle LMS 4.3 new and improved features

Boosted security features

Security takes the front seat in Moodle LMS 4.3, with multi-factor authentication, a “do not track” option for YouTube and Vimeo, and an array of advanced features ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant learning environment. Now organisations can simplify the path to meeting compliance requirements, increasing both reliability and user trust.

Sleeker and streamlined Activity Cards

Educators and learners will appreciate the revitalised activity cards – now more compact and intuitive, ensuring seamless management of groups, restrictions, and activity completion conditions. By reducing navigation obstacles, these improvements will help reduce the time and effort it takes for course creators to manage course activities and reduce scroll length within courses, making navigation easier for learners.

Improved navigation and Course index

Now, it is possible to expand all/collapse the course index on the course page.  Additionally floating previous and next buttons have been added to Book activities. These improvements make the navigation of vast courses effortless, so that learners and educators can focus more on content and activities, enhancing learner experience and engagement.

Time-saving default site-level settings for activity completion

Courtesy of the Moodle Users Association’s valuable input, administrators and educators can now set default activity completion conditions at the site level. This improvement results in reduced management effort, heightened accuracy, and speedy task execution for instructors.

Increase adoption of external tools with LTI improvements

The ability to tap into the power of external tools has been rejuvenated by the refactoring of course-level LTI tools.

The improved functionality includes the ability to add and manage pre-configured tools at a course level. This improved visibility helps streamline management and encourages the increased adoption of valuable LTI tools.

A dedicated LTI External tool management page has been added. A contribution from the community also enables LTI tools configured at a system level to be restricted to only be available to specific categories further enhancing the flexibility of LTI External tools.  Enhanced customisation and streamlined workflows deliver a clutter-free, focused teaching and learning environment.

Question bank improvements

Thanks to contributions from the Open University, ETH Zurich and Bern UAS, developed by Catalyst EU, these improvements allow educators to have enhanced search and filter options and customise their view of the question bank, making assessment creation and management a seamless experience.

More reports directly within Moodle

Administrators will revel in the enhanced flexibility and depth offered by the improved Report Builder, simplifying report generation and offering enriched insights. These enhancements are a part of our continuous effort to improve this feature. The added flexibility allows for creating more in-depth reports directly within Moodle, reducing the need for external tools. This results in easier maintenance and a more user-friendly experience.

Upgraded TinyMCE editor for improved content creation

Content creation is more intuitive and versatile, thanks to the upgraded TinyMCE editor, blending user-friendly interfaces with advanced HTML markup handling capabilities. Moodle LMS 4.3 enhances the TinyMCE text editor with a user-friendly interface, including improvements for handling raw HTML code. Some advantages for WYSIWYG users and code-savvy educators include a more intuitive and robust editing journey, making content creation smoother than ever. Enjoy greater precision and efficiency when working directly with HTML markup.

Enhanced grading experience

A seamless grading journey awaits educators – thanks to intuitive icons, a sticky footer, and standardised search behaviours across reports, ensuring grading is not just accurate but also effortless. The streamlined grading process frees more time for instructional activities and student engagement.

Streamlined content sharing with MoodleNet

Educators can now share course content through a direct MoodleNet integration, which elevates teaching by easily sharing and discovering top-tier educational resources.

Enhance collaboration with in-course messaging

Moodle is renowned for fostering collaborative learning through group activities such as Forums, Wikis, and live virtual classrooms.

A game-changing new experimental feature for ‘In Course’ Communication empowers enhanced collaboration and social learning experiences. The launch of our new integration with the Matrix Messaging system provides access to a contemporary messaging interface directly in the heart of Moodle. Additional functionality will make working with other messaging systems (e.g. Slack or Teams) more seamless in future. These new in-course communication options will help educators and learners stay connected, foster increased engagement and work more closely together!
