How Superdry elevated learning and compliance with Moodle Workplace and Titus

December 3, 2024 By Sonya Trivedi

Founded in the UK in 2003, Superdry is a global fashion brand with over 150 stores and 2500 employees across Europe and the United States, a strong online presence, and wholesale and licensing partnerships worldwide. The company offers a range of clothing and accessories with a focus on style, quality and sustainability.

The challenge

Prior to implementing Moodle Workplace, Superdry relied on a basic learning management system that struggled to meet the company’s evolving training needs. The existing platform was particularly ineffective for tracking and reporting, making it difficult to manage compliance training for their employees. As health and safety requirements became more stringent, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Superdry recognised the need for a more robust and flexible learning management system (LMS).

The solution

Superdry partnered with Titus Learning, a Moodle Premium Certified Partner, to implement Moodle Workplace as their new learning management system.

Titus is an eLearning solutions provider based in the UK. The company’s client base covers 30+ countries and a range of different sectors, including education, corporate, training organisations, the public sector, and charities. Titus has won many awards with their clients and on their own, most notably the title of Moodle Global Partner of the Year 2024. An alignment of company values and focus on creating a positive impact made Titus a natural partner for Superdry.

The decision to use Moodle Workplace was based on the platform’s flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and widespread use in the industry.

The new LMS, initially named Shinpo (meaning ‘progress’ in Japanese) and later rebranded as PeopleHub, was customised by Titus to meet Superdry’s specific needs. It incorporated features such as automated compliance training, refresher courses, and soft skills development programs. The platform also integrated H5P for interactive content creation, enhancing the learning experience for employees.

Superdry welcomed Titus’s approach, which fostered open communication and a strong working relationship throughout the implementation process.

Nicole Kilius-Smith, Talent Development Manager at Superdry, shared her impressions about working with Titus: “We’ve built really honest, open communication between Titus and Superdry. There’s a humanness to it, which, because I’m not a technical person, I needed. That real conversation around what we needed to do has been crucial to how our site has evolved and improved.”

The result

Since implementing Moodle Workplace, Superdry’s approach to learning and compliance has been transformed, with significant improvements in several key areas.

Compliance rates have soared to 97% for head office staff, the highest level ever achieved for Superdry. This success is attributed to the ease of use and improved tracking capabilities of Moodle Workplace.

The platform has enabled Superdry to offer a mix of in-person and online learning experiences, catering to different learning styles. This new blended approach has been particularly beneficial for learners with a preference for self-guided learning, offering them true choice and the ability to engage with content that best suits them at the right time and pace.

Superdry has used the platform to expand the company’s training offering beyond compliance, incorporating soft skills development and targeted content for special events and initiatives, such as Pride celebrations and Black History Month.

Moreover, Moodle Workplace’s flexibility and Titus’s support have allowed Superdry to adapt quickly to changing business needs and focus, especially as the company is in a period of transition.

Looking ahead, Superdry plans to extend the use of Moodle Workplace to retail teams, aiming to streamline compliance training and introduce on-demand soft skills development for store employees. The company will also be implementing multi-language and accessibility support to cater to its global workforce and drive inclusivity.
